Professor Dorota Węziak-Białowolska of Kozminski University has been named among the recipients of the Minister of Science and Higher Education Award in the category for significant achievements in scientific activity (social sciences). This is one of the most important distinctions in the Polish academic community – granted to researchers whose work genuinely pushes the boundaries of knowledge and sets directions for the development of disciplines.

The distinction awarded to Professor Węziak-Białowolska confirms her consistently pursued academic path and the high standard of research carried out at Kozminski University. It is also a clear signal that the social sciences – conducted with methodological rigour and sensitivity to the needs of people, organisations and institutions – are now crucial for understanding the contemporary world and designing solutions for the future.

Research that helps us better understand quality of life and well-being

In her research, Professor Dorota Węziak-Białowolska focuses on issues related to well-being, quality of life and positive health, as well as on how these areas can be measured reliably and how they translate into the functioning of societies and organisations. Her approach combines the perspective of the social sciences with data analysis and conclusions that are relevant both for academia and for practice – from public policy to management and organisational culture.

An important element of this work is its international research horizon: participation in projects carried out with international partners, development of comparable research tools, and addressing topics that are universal while also requiring grounding in social realities. The Minister’s Awards – recognition for the best

The Minister of Science and Higher Education Awards are granted in five categories: for lifetime achievement and for accomplishments in scientific, teaching, implementation and organisational activity. In the 2025 edition, more than 150 people were honoured, recognising both individual achievements and the work of research teams.
