“A Guide for Migrant Women” – a unique publication endorsed by Prof. Izabela Grabowska

“Warsaw – A Guide for Migrant Women” is a unique publication created to support women arriving in the Polish capital. The guide helps newcomers organise everyday life in a new city – from finding accommodation and looking for a job to spending free time. It also helps readers understand regulations and civic responsibilities.

The project was commissioned by the City of Warsaw and delivered by EGO – Evaluation for Government Organizations. The team engaged both organisations supporting migrants and migrant women themselves, using a co-creation approach inspired by the urban lab concept. The publication was developed under the academic patronage of Prof. Izabela Grabowska (Prof. Dr hab.), affiliated with the Centre for Research on Social Change and Mobility at Kozminski University.

A significant part of the guide focuses on employment. For many migrant women, finding work is the most important step towards independence and self-confidence. The guide therefore explains where to check one’s legal options for employment, how to prepare for a job search and how to handle a recruitment interview. It also outlines key formalities, rights and relevant regulations.

“As part of the guide, we encourage migrant women to visit the Moja Migracja portal (www.mojamigracja.org), created by Kozminski University researchers,” Prof. Grabowska notes. “A dedicated section of the site helps users identify and describe their competencies, which can be useful when preparing a CV and during job interviews. Knowing yourself is a gateway to the labour market – at any stage of your career and in any place. It also allows you to see your results in comparison with others.”

The guide is available online in Polish, English and Ukrainian.
