The School of Law at Kozminski University

The School of Law at Kozminski University, founded in 2001, is one of Poland’s leading and most recognizable academic centres for legal education and research. It is known for its strong interdisciplinary approach, integrating law with business, finance, and new technologies to reflect the realities of today’s legal and economic environment.

Since 2009, the School has been authorised to confer the degree of Doctor of Laws (PhD), and since 2016, the degree of Habilitated Doctor. These rights confirm the highest standards of scientific research, academic excellence, and teaching quality maintained by the School.

The School of Law integrates the achievements of Polish legal thought with an international research and teaching perspective. Its academic activities are grounded in the experiences of domestic legal practice, complemented by a constant presence in the international academic environment. Domestically, students and faculty cooperate with courts, law firms, public institutions, and state authorities, gaining practical experience within the realities of the Polish legal system.

Engagement in the international academic environment is multidimensional. It is expressed through cooperation with foreign universities, visiting professors, internships and study visits by academic staff, student exchange programs, as well as participation in international research projects and scientific publications. As a result, both students and faculty gain experience within the global legal environment.

Modern Teaching Methods

The School of Law utilizes innovative teaching methods that respond to the challenges of the 21st century. Faculty members are open and communicative; they employ engaging methods, utilize technological tools, inspire students, develop independence, and trigger critical thinking. They make use of, among other things, court hearing simulations, company formation simulations, pleading in arbitration proceedings, mediation, negotiation and oratory workshops, Oxford debates, story-based urban legal games, and educational workshops under the Street Law program.

A flagship project is teaching using VR technology, enabling participation in immersive simulations of court hearings, interrogations, negotiations, and mediations. These allow students to experience law in action, develop the ability to react quickly, and deepen social competencies in negotiation, argumentation, public speaking, and more. Significant complementary elements include advanced e-learning tools, moot court simulations, study visits, and educational trips to courts, law firms, public institutions, and international organizations. Such a combination of technology and practice allows students to gain real professional experience while still studying. Indeed, our ambition is to prepare graduates to shape their career paths in their dream directions and achieve strong professional positions.

Diverse teaching methods utilizing new technologies fit into the education program for young lawyers in a dynamic economic environment. They allow for learning the foundations of law and its practical applications (learning by doing) in an educational process that leverages the student's natural curiosity, strongly motivating and engaging them in acquiring knowledge and skills such as creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. They facilitate learning the analysis and interpretation of regulations, working on legal documents (preparing contracts, lawsuits, and procedural pleadings based on real-life examples), and teach how to act in accordance with professional ethics. Thanks to the involvement of practitioners, they provide an understanding of the specifics of legal professions (attorney, legal counsel, judge, prosecutor, notary public, bailiff) as well as professions for which legal knowledge is essential, including restructuring advisor, patent attorney, and tax advisor; they also prepare students for creative professions, including compliance officer, journalist, mediator, Data Protection Officer, company manager, consultant or expert in a given field of law, and sworn translator.

A Message from the Dean

prof. Nowak
Prof. Bartłomiej Nowak

The School of Law at Kozminski University offers a unique model of legal education, combining strong academic foundations with a modern approach to law in a global and digital world. Our mission is to educate future lawyers and professionals who rely not only on established values and legal principles but are also prepared to operate across different legal systems, sectors, and cultures—in a changing environment where digital technologies and artificial intelligence play an increasingly significant, though not always positive, role.

At the School of Law, we believe that legal education should go beyond the mere study of regulations. We encourage intellectual curiosity, openness to new ideas, and independent, critical thinking—traits that develop the skills of fair judgment, wise decision-making, and effective problem-solving. In today’s complex world, universities educating lawyers bear a special responsibility to foster the free exchange of ideas and support innovation, and this is what defines our educational mission.

We have aligned our study programs and their implementation with these assumptions. One of the distinguishing features of studying law at KU is small class sizes, ensuring direct contact with outstanding scholars and legal practitioners who guarantee a high substantive and practical level. The study programs are based on three pillars: knowledge combined with practice, interdisciplinarity and innovation, and internationalization—including the opportunity to complete part of the studies abroad and participate in international exchange programs.

Drawing on the experience of our faculty, alumni, and a broad network of domestic and foreign partners, we constantly develop our curricula, preparing graduates both for strictly legal professions and for work in areas where legal knowledge and analytical skills are essential.

Operating since 2001, the School of Law is one of the leading academic centers in Poland, offering Long-cycle Master’s studies, Master’s studies, a legal doctoral seminar, and postgraduate programs, including a prestigious LL.M. in English modeled on the best law schools in Europe and the USA. As an active member of international academic associations such as the International Association of Law Schools (IALS) and the European Law Faculties Association (ELFA), and thanks to our internationalized campus, Kozminski University is a credible and attractive partner for scientific cooperation worldwide.

We warmly invite international partners and students to join our academic community.
