The Internal Quality Assurance System for Education

THE INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE SYSTEM FOR EDUCATION

The Internal Quality Assurance System for Education at Kozminski University encompasses activities, procedures, and tools that support the continuous improvement of teaching processes. The system enables the monitoring of learning goals and outcomes, the assessment of teaching effectiveness, and the maintenance of a high level of satisfaction among students and graduates.  Its goal is to create a quality culture based on the engagement of the entire academic community.

SYSTEM STRUCTURE

The quality system at Kozminski University is a shared responsibility of all participants in the educational process – university authorities, academic lecturers, students, and doctoral candidates. Through cooperation, it is possible to continuously improve study programs and enhance the quality of education.  The system structure includes:

  • Quality Council
  • Quality Assurance Committee
  • Quality Assessment Committee
  • Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Education
  • Director of the Quality Office

The activities of these bodies are supported by the Quality Office, which conducts analyses, collects data, manages IT systems related to education quality, and carries out informational and promotional activities.

QUALITY MANUAL

The Quality Manual is the fundamental document describing the structure, procedures, and standards in force within the quality assurance system at Kozminski University. It contains guidelines for measuring learning outcomes, conducting research, and implementing improvement actions.

QUALITY RESEARCH IN EDUCATION

The aim of the study is to assess whether students are achieving learning goals and outcomes consistent with the curriculum. The results of the analyses help identify areas requiring correction and form the basis for implementing improvement actions.

The survey serves as a reflection for academic lecturers on the quality of their classes and identifies opportunities for improvement. It is conducted twice a year, at the beginning of the examination session, based on the analysis of student grades and the results of didactic surveys.

This research gathers students’ opinions on the quality of classes, the work of lecturers, and the organization of the teaching process. The survey system is automated – surveys are made available to students in the MyKozminski system and are voluntary and anonymous.

This research is aimed at students in their final semester. Its goal is to gather feedback on the level of competencies they have acquired and to gather information to help improve the programs.

The NPS survey is addressed to graduates who have successfully completed their studies. The results allow for the assessment of overall satisfaction and identification of the university’s strengths and weaknesses.

Class observations are a tool supporting academic lecturers in improving teaching methods. They enable the exchange of experiences, evaluation of teaching methods, and the development of didactic competencies.

CENTER FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

WHO WE ARE

The Center for Academic Excellence was created to systemically support instructors and improve the quality of teaching at our University. We work side by side with instructors and students. We deliver practical solutions you can use right away: we help design courses, choose methods and tools, set clear class policies and workflows and organize teaching - also in digital environments.

MISSION

Our mission is to provide practical, hands-on support for those who teach and those who learn at KU. We strive to make the learning process clear, engaging, accessible, and effective - whether classes are held on campus, in hybrid mode or fully online (synchronously or asynchronously).

VISION

We want teaching quality to be everyday practice at KU. This means classes with a clear structure and understandable goals, thoughtful use of the digital environment, a stable and predictable development offer for faculty and student support that helps them learn consciously and effectively.

VALUES & WAYS OF WORKING

We act in a spirit of partnership. We prioritize simplicity and usefulness - explaining complex things in plain language and preparing materials that are short, clear and ready to use. We design courses and content to be accessible to people with diverse needs. We develop innovations responsibly - testing, learning and improving solutions instead of multiplying tools without purpose. We make decisions based on data and feedback: we analyze surveys, observe activity in systems, and talk with users - and we turn conclusions into change.

WHAT WE DO – AREAS OF SUPPORT

We run themed office hours and individual consultations. We help translate course objectives into concrete activities, plan meaningful assessment (including formative assessment), design interaction in class and in coursework (including asynchronous work) and streamline communication with students.

We organize courses in Blackboard, create a model course on teaching quality for instructors and a student course that shows how to use the tools and organize learning. We support the smart integration of Coursera into classes - from choosing courses to monitoring activity and assessment.

We offer a development program in three areas. In the methodological track we work on formulating learning outcomes, designing activities and constructive alignment with assessment. In the technical track we teach working in Blackboard, creating e-learning materials and building interaction. In the social track we address neurodiversity, communication and a feedback culture.

We prepare a methodological standard that describes how to design, run and document classes in a way that is transparent, convenient and fair for students. We provide self-assessment checklists and review tools alongside the standard. We don’t stop at diagnosis - after a review we deliver concrete recommendations and help implement them.
