KUDoS Support and Infrastructure

Financial suport

KUDoS program is entirely tuition-free as we understand the importance of reducing financial barriers to higher education. In order to provide a cost-effective path to obtaining your doctoral degree KUDoS offers an array of financial support including doctoral student scholarships, generous support for international mobility, and numerous research grant opportunities.

KUDoS is committed to financially support doctoral students in their academic journey. Each person admitted to the Doctoral School receives a scholarship for a 4-year period of education. The monthly scholarship amount for students of 1st and 2nd year is 2667 pln (gross amount) and for students of 3rd and 4th year it is increased to 3700 pln (gross amount). Doctoral school is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science.

KUDoS is dedicated to recognizing and nurturing academic excellence. One of the ways we celebrate outstanding achievement is through the "Merit Scholarship for the Best Student," funded by NAWA within the STER project. The scholarship offers a substantial monthly award of 5000 PLN to the deserving recipient and is available to students who have completed their first year at Kozminski University and have demonstrated exceptional academic performance and a commitment to excellence. The scholarship recipient is selected on a yearly basis based on the assessment by the committee. Details concerning awarding criteria and application procedure can be found in the Regulation no. 17 - 2021/2022 of the Rector of Kozminski University of 1 February 2022 on the Regulations for awarding doctoral scholarships to the best doctoral students from the Doctoral School within the framework of the STER – Internationalisation of Doctoral Schools programme implemented at Kozminski University, financed by the National Agency for Academic Exchange as part of the project “International and Interdisciplinary Doctoral School of Kozminski University”.

In addition to short-term international mobility including conference and study exchange KUDoS offers an opportunity of long-term research visits at the world-class research institutions chosen by the doctoral student. Under this program, the best students will have the chance to attend and 3- to 6-month research visits which are covered financially by the "Mobility Support " STER program, funded by NAWA. This initiative is designed to empower our exceptional scholars with enriching experiences and international exposure.

With more than 200 academic partnership agreements KU is one of the most internationalized universities in Poland. KU’s International Relations Office (IRO) offers Erasmus+ activities for doctoral students, offering up to 12 months of international experience. Options include a study exchange at partner universities, student internships for work experience in the EU, and recent graduate internships, to be completed within a year of Ph.D. thesis defense. Both short-term (5-30 days with a virtual component) and long-term (minimum 60 days) internships are available. An Erasmus+ scholarship supports these activities, offering 600-700 EUR monthly for long-term stays, and 70 EUR daily (1-14 days) or 50 EUR daily (15-30 days) for short-term internships. Note that the scholarship is only for European destinations and cannot be combined with other financing; tuition is free at partner universities but standard fees apply at KU. For more information students can attend upcoming events like Erasmus+ Day (23/11) and Erasmus+ exchange online meeting (06/12), visit social media or visit the International Relations Office website.

Finally KUDoS encourages and supports doctoral students in exploring external sources of financial support including applying for new research grants and taking part in existing research projects. External funding provides further opportunities to enrich academic and research experience while offering additional financial support for doctoral students. External research projects are funded through a variety of sources, depending on the nature of the project and the objectives of the research. KU specialized in research projects in the field of management, sociology, economics, finance and law and has obtained financing from the funding agencies, among others NCN, NCBR, NAWA and the Horizon 2020 research and innovation framework program of the European Commission. Full list of ongoing research projects at Kozminski University is available under the following link. Application for research grants are processed by Scientific Activity Support Office which is located next to Doctoral Student Zone. Doctoral students can apply for funding to the following institutions:

International Students & Wellbeing Support

As KUDoS is aiming at internationalization we are striving to welcome our international students and facilitate their entrance into the KUDoS academic community.

Welcome Point

From orientation to assisting with formal arrangements and even learning where to park Welcome Point is the best place to start your journey at Kozminski University! Welcome Point is financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange under the Welcome to Poland program (2022). We provide informational assistance to international students and professors on matters such as accommodation, legalization of stay and many other arrangements concerning life in Poland. We are here to make you feel part of the KU’s community and at home in Warsaw. You can find our Welcome Point in building D, room D-125a.

Students coming from non-EU countries must apply for a Polish National Student Visa. Students coming from non-EU countries, that are allowed to enter Poland based on visa-free movement are also advised to obtain Student Visa before arrival. Student visas will be issued for up to 365 days. To assist in the visa application process, Kozminski University will provide an official letter of invitation after your admission to the Doctoral School. This letter will confirm your enrollment in the program and support your visa application. If your intended stay in Poland exceeds your’ visa's validity, you may need to apply for a Temporary Residence Permit at the Department for Foreigners in Warsaw (Wydział Spraw Cudzoziemców w Warszawie, Marszałkowska street 3/5, 00-624 Warsaw). The first step to apply for the Permit is to book an appointment with the Office for Foreigners using their Internet calendar. After registration, you must arrive on the appointed date with a complete set of documents. The documents must be submitted in original or in the form of authenticated copies, done by Polish Notary (pl. Notariusz). After submission of required documents, your Temporary Residence Permit application is accepted - this means that your stay in Poland is legal and your application will be reviewed by the Department. At the end of the procedure, you will be granted the physical–document - Temporary Residence Card. WARNING - The procedure can take a few months so remember to apply as soon as possible.

European Union citizens can enter Poland based on their valid ID document (e.g. passport, national ID card). For stays of up to 3 months registration of stay is not necessary. For stays exceeding 3 months, all EU students must register their stay in Poland at the Department of Foreigners. The first step to register your stay in Poland is to book an appointment with the Office for Foreigners using their internet calendar. After registration, you must arrive on the appointed date with a complete set of documents. The documents must be submitted in original or in the form of authenticated copies, done by a Polish Notary (pol. Notariusz). Once you submit required documents, registration of your stay in Poland is completed.

Health insurance is mandatory for international students in Poland. You can purchase health insurance in your home country or obtain it after you arrive in Poland. It is advisable to clarify the specific requirements and options for health insurance with the appropriate authorities.

Kozminski University does not own any housing facilities or dormitories. However, the Student Support Center staff is available to provide guidance on finding accommodation throughout the city. In front of the admission office, you will find the accommodation board, where property owners post private offers for rooms and apartments available for rent.

We highly recommend utilizing the services of accommodation agencies. There are several reputable agencies that we can recommend. Please note that renting a place through an agency may incur a fee, typically equivalent to one month's rent for the particular apartment. The average monthly price for flat rentals ranges from 350 to 500 EUR. Keep in mind that rental prices in Warsaw vary based on the flat's standard, size, and location.

For cost-effective solutions, we encourage students to consider sharing flats and splitting the expenses between 2 or 3 people. This arrangement often results in more affordable accommodation with higher standards compared to student housing options.

For students looking to enhance their language skills, we offer language courses tailored to different proficiency levels. In addition to academic programs, you can also enroll in Polish language courses, which can be a valuable asset during your stay in Poland.

As mental health is an increasingly important issue KU students and employees can benefit from psychological support from the Wellbeing Office and consultations with psychologists from the Mindmed Institute of Psychotherapy.  Do you experience difficulties that you cannot deal with? Emotions that overwhelm you? Or maybe you are looking for a way to realize yourself? Our university cares about the well-being of the academic community. KU students and employees have the opportunity to obtain ad hoc support in the current functioning, as well as psychological and psychiatric help. All consultations are free and confidential.

The first form of help is consultation with employees of the Wellbeing Office. The most ongoing form of contact for those in need of support is by e-mail, through Microsoft Teams or by arranging a meeting at KU.

The Wellbeing Office also provides access to psychotherapeutic and psychiatric consultations in cooperation with the Mindmed Psychotherapy Institute as part of the Accessible-Open-Creative project. KU as a university of equal opportunities”.
