EXIL - sharing EXperiences in Integrating dispLaced students

The EXIL project investigates the needs of refugee students (RS) and conducts research to document and collect best practices. It is developing recommendations for emergency and short- and long-term actions that Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) can implement and create for an inclusive learning environment. It will be tasked with spreading the embracing of RS through publications, podcasts and events, which should raise awareness and understanding of their situation and offer concrete recommendations for their inclusion.

The EXIL project aims to improve the integration of refugee students in higher education institutions in the EU.

Its specific objectives are:

  • To understand the needs and constraints of refugee students;
  • To document and disseminate best practices implemented by EU universities during their reception;
  • To assist EU higher education institutions to adapt their teaching methodologies;
  • Assisting EU higher education institutions to provide appropriate support;
  • Raise awareness and continue discussions in the EU on the role of higher education institutions during humanitarian crises.

The implementation will result in the following products:

  • A report exploring the needs, expectations and constraints of refugee students (RS);
  • A report presenting best practices on how higher education institutions(HEIs) have responded to the influx of Ukrainian RS;
  • 2 recommendation guides on pedagogy and support services to create an inclusive environment for refugee students.
