I am a political economist studying institutions. I hold a Ph.D. from Bocconi University and a master's degree from Kyiv School of Economics, the University of Houston, and London Metropolitan University.
My main areas of research expertise are governance, institutions, and resilience. Currently, I am working on several projects investigating populism, sanctions, economic and social resilience to crises (e.g. the Russian war on Ukraine), and impact of institutional settings on firms. Previously, I have been studying the resilience of financial markets as well as their reaction to armed conflicts and terrorism. I have been also studying the governance of the land market in Ukraine publishing on topics connected to clientelism and security of property rights for land. My research has been published in renowned international journals such as the Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of International Management, Eastern European Economics, Economics and Sociology, and Journal of International Studies.
I am a leader and investigator of numerous scientific projects funded by the National Science Centre, the National Centre for Research and Development, the European Commission, including Horizon. Starting in February 2025, I will coordinate the work of the Polish team in an international project funded by Horizon Europe titled “Valuing Public Goods in a Populist World: A Comparative Analysis of Network Dynamics and Societal Outcomes.” The project will focus on analyzing how the rule of law and populism affect the creation and distribution of public goods by various social entities. I expect that the findings from the project can be used to develop more effective public policies that better consider the complex relationships and potential conflicts between the rule of law and populism.
I am a member of the American Economic Association, the European Economic Association, the Academy of International Business, and the University Association for Contemporary European Studies. I serve as a contributing editor of Eastern European Economics and Frontiers in Political Science.
Furthermore, I am the founder of the "Policy Implications" podcast where scientists discuss the results of their research. And I'm also a co-founder of the "New Dawn" initiative aimed at advocating EU membership for Ukraine and searching for best practices for the future reconstruction of the country.
