Dear Students, Graduates, and Friends of Kozminski University, we are happy to announce the second meeting of our series: Big Data Never Sleeps! The event is organized by the leaders of the Master in Big Data Science program. This month, we invite you to join Adilzhan Ismailov, Data Scientist at Depop for an interesting meeting on "Recommender Systems for Marketplaces"! Recommender systems are one of the most widely used and successful applications of machine learning in business. In the presentation, I will briefly cover some approaches to making recommendations in the context of marketplaces, where we aim to select the most relevant items for users out of a large, constantly changing catalogue of millions of products.

Who is Jan Majewski?
Adilzhan Ismailov is a Data Scientist at Depop. He has a BA from Cambridge University, an MSc from Barcelona School of Economics, and a Ph.D. from Universitat Pompeu Fabra working on Applied Economics, Political Economy, and Machine Learning. In the past, he worked as a trader at the Barclays Investment Bank and since 2018 he has been consistently ranked as a 1% top coder in the Machine Learning Competitions on Kaggle.
