AI and Humanoid Robots. Intersections with Human Rights and Ethics

What happens when robots start looking, acting, and interacting more and more like humans? And are law and ethics actually ready for it?

Join us for a unique seminar led by Dr Lucas Cardiell from the European University Institute in Florence as we explore the intersection of humanoid Al, human rights, and ethics.

What's on the agenda?

• The "Klara" effect: using Kazuo Ishiguro's Klara and the Sun to explore why we get so emotionally attached to silicon and circuits
• Beyond the uncanny valley: a deep dive into Hiroshi Ishiguro's hyper-realistic robots and the unsettling questions they raise
• The ethical minefield: from privacy and deception to autonomy, consent, and the risk of dehumanization in areas such as sex robotics and elderly care
• The rulebook: reflections on current international and European regulation, including the EU AI Act
• Real-world cases: companion robots already living in private homes

This will be an interactive session where you get to challenge perspectives on one of the most fascinating and uneasy frontiers of contemporary technology.
