Swiss Research Scholarships 2025-26
Swiss research scholarships (Research Fellowship, PhD, Postdoc) are available for postgraduate students planning to conduct research or pursue further studies at the doctoral or postdoctoral level in Switzerland.
Scholarships enable research projects at all Swiss cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, the two federal institutes of technology, and four research institutes. A nomination from an academic supervisor at one of these institutions is required to apply.
Target Group
- Hold a master’s degree or an equivalent academic qualification obtained before July 31, 2025 (ETH Zurich: June 30, 2025).
- Born after December 31, 1989.
- Have a well-developed research project including a timeline.
- Possess a mandatory letter of recommendation from a Swiss academic host (including their short CV).
Duration and Financial Conditions
- The scholarship starts on September 1, 2025.
- The initial duration is 12 months, with a possible extension up to a maximum of 36 months (in three 12-month stages, subject to academic performance).
- Scholarship amount: CHF 1,920 per month.
- The scholarship covers the living costs of one person only and is not considered a salary.
Selection Criteria
Applications are evaluated by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) based on the following criteria:
- Candidate profile: academic achievements, research ability, and motivation.
- Research project: originality and methodological soundness.
- Academic context: quality of supervision and potential for future academic collaboration.
