Inauguration Ceremony of the 2022/2023 Academic Year

04.10.2022

Four thousand students picked up virtual indexes and took up bachelor's, master's, postgraduate or doctoral studies at Kozminski University for the first time. During the ceremony inaugurating the new academic year, representatives of students and alumni assured the new students that a great intellectual adventure awaits them at Kozminski, great opportunities to study around the world as part of academic exchanges, and a friendly environment where they are sure to find soul mates.

The university is relatively young, as it has existed for 29 years, but it has already achieved great international success. As one of 120 universities in the world, it has triple international accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA) and ranks high in the Financial Times rankings, making it the best economic university in Central and Eastern Europe. This success has been earned over the years by a group of distinguished professors and lecturers, including many practitioners from the business market, and by the students themselves, who take part in international competitions of knowledge and professional prowess in the areas of finance, law and management.

Kozminski University is future-oriented, as the Rector Prof. Grzegorz Mazurek said in his inaugural speech. - As a university, we have been able to stand on the right side in the dispute between the "old world", which is increasingly questionable for the younger generation, and the aspirations for change for the better in the area of economy and social life. Testimony to the choice of a "new world", in line with the wishes of the youngest generations, is not only the slogan of our Academy - "a new school for a new world", its strategy, goals of sustainable development, but, above all, concrete actions concerning ethical leadership, ethics, equality, tolerance, inclusiveness or concern for the environment," said the Rector.

The inauguration ceremony brought together a large number of students, professors and guests, including a large number of rectors of Polish universities who, in traction academic attire, graced the Rector's procession.

The inauguration was accompanied by the presentation of medals and awards. Leon Kozminski Academy medals were received by Myroslava Keryk, President of the Our Choice Foundation and Ukrainian Home, and Professor Witold Morawski, a distinguished employee of the university. The Kozminski Lions presented to outstanding graduates this year went to Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda, CEO of Pomeranian Hospitals, Dr. Mateusz Zawistowski, head of the ffVC law firm, and Grzegorz Krupnik, CEO of PROTECH.

President Prof. Witold Bielecki, as well as the Academy itself, were honored with commemorative medals "For Merits to the World Association of Home Army Soldiers," presented by Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers Maciej Jarosinski. A medal commemorating the "80th Anniversary of the transformation of the Union of Armed Struggle into the Home Army" was presented to the Rector.

The inaugural lecture on "Inflation - more answers or questions for the economist?" was delivered by Prof. Jacek Tomkiewicz.

The ceremony received a wonderful musical setting, provided by a choir of students and graduates of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
