Rector's Letter

Dear Colleagues, Dear Students
Yesterday, that is March 25, the first of the dates by which university classes were to be suspended expired. We already know that there is no guarantee of maintaining the second deadline, namely Easter. I do not intend to make you aware of the seriousness and horror of the situation.
You realize that we are living in the times of VUCA or Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity, i.e. the "misfortunes" that hinder our lives and work. To top it all off, there is the coronavirus, which has further intensified all these phenomena.
Today is a time of great trial for all of us, the entire academic community. These several days have shown that thanks to our unique organizational culture, modelled on turquoise organization and consciously built antifragility, we are in a fairly good situation.
Of course, according to the definition, we did not foresee this "black swan" (nobody predicted it), because this is how the phenomenon of the world-wide pandemic should be addressed.
At this point I would like to thank you all very warmly for your fantastic reaction to the situation, which surprised us all. In the first three days of the coronavirus turbulence, nearly 50% of the classes took place online. Now, a week later, this is over 87% of all classes. In the period 16-23 March, 100% of the classes of the "English Track" and MBA studies were held online. On average, we plan online classes for 4300 students per day – this is nearly 200 courses, seminars, lectures.
We would like to thank you for your commitment and hard work, which allowed us to minimize the losses resulting from the unexpected suspension of classes and, as a consequence, the reduction of the University's activities. This applies to all individuals: KEBS, KIBS, Management and Finance, Law, employees of administrative departments, Planning and Scheduling Office, IT, Dean's Office, Project Office and all others. I do not distinguish and do not mention anyone by name, according to my maxim that the success of the University is the success of all members of its community, although probably to a different extent.
Special thanks are also due to students who have shown great responsibility and understanding, as evidenced by the nearly 100% attendance at classes. Thus, students and listeners have proven their full and authentic membership in the academic community of KU.
Unfortunately, the situation is unpredictable. We cannot rule out the possibility that in the near or far future we will find ourselves in a situation requiring us, as the whole academic community, to make even greater sacrifices and increase our efforts, which will determine the future of our University.
To sum up, after these several days I can say that we have all shown that we are both a bit "Turquoise", but more importantly, definitely "Antifragile".
Keep it going like this

The Rector
