Joanna Buchalska, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Law and a scholar of the Max Planck Institute in Munich. She participated in the COST action CA19102 “Language in the Human Machine Era” (2020) and implemented the National Centre for Research and Development project “GOSPOSTRATEG 1: The Potential for the Development and Implementation of Vacuum Railway Technology in Poland in the Social, Technical, Economic and Legal Context.” She is a legal counsel and an employee of the Polish Supreme Court. Joanna Buchalska received her doctoral degree in law at Kozminski University. Her scientific interests focus on copyright, civil, and EU law. She received a scholarship from the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market in the Department for Industrial Property Policy under the supervision of Vincent O’Reilly (currently working at the OHIM Academy) in the Max Planck Institute in Munich. Since 2015, Professor Buchalska has been a member of the Accreditation Committee of the HR Excellence in Research at Kozminski University. She has participated in many conferences around the world, and she authored and co-authored publications focused on industrial property law and civil law. She received the Rector’s Award for scientific work in 2018/2019 and 2019/2020.

 

Scientific projects:

2016–2018 – project work with the teams “Copyright Law” and “Industrial Property Law” within the project “Right to Competence,” co-funded by the European Union from the European Social Fund+, UDA-POWER.03.01.00-00-K386/15.

2014–now – team MARKA: founder and member of an interdisciplinary project operating within Kozminski University Interdisciplinary Center under the supervision of Professor Andrzej Koźmiński. MARKA deals with brands and trademarks in legal, economic, sociological, and financial dimensions; the team consists of J. Buchalska, K. Chmielewski, K. Dąbrowska, A. Doczekalska, and P. Kaczmarek-Kurczak.

2013–now – project of the Institute of Law Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences dedicated to the popularization of Polish thought in the field of private law: blog Polish Private Law (editor of the intellectual property law section).
