The Legal Status of Gametes and Embryos. A Polish-French Comparative Seminar.
Is a gamete or an embryo a “thing,” a personal right, or perhaps a subject of legal protection? How do contemporary legal systems respond to questions that until recently belonged exclusively to bioethics and medicine?
We invite you to a comparative law seminar devoted to the legal status of gametes and embryos — one of the most timely and, at the same time, most controversial issues in contemporary jurisprudence.
Date and Venue: 9 June 2026 (Tuesday) Time: 2:00 PM Venue: Room D/218 – Kozminski University
The Legal Status of Gametes and Embryos. A French-Polish Comparative Seminar.
The event will feature:
- Prof. Alicia Mazouz (Université Catholique de Lille, Campus Issy-les-Moulineaux), who will present the French perspective on the legal status of gametes,
- Prof. Maria Boratyńska (Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Warsaw), who will discuss Polish court disputes concerning embryos and reproductive conflicts.
The seminar will provide an opportunity to discuss the challenges that advances in reproductive medicine pose for private law, constitutional law, and human rights.
