A scientific article co-authored by Kozminski University professors, Dorota Węziak-Białowolska and Piotr Białowolski, has been featured on the prestigious "Top 10 Insights from the Science of a Meaningful Life in 2023" list, compiled by the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley.
The article, titled "Psychological caring climate at work, mental health, well-being, and work-related outcomes: Evidence from a longitudinal study and health insurance data," was developed as part of the Positive Health Program at the Center for Education, Analysis, and Psychological Measurements (CEAPP UJ) at Jagiellonian University. This publication by Dorota Węziak-Białowolska, Piotr Białowolski, and their co-authors, published in the renowned journal Social Science & Medicine, explores the impact of a psychologically caring climate at work on employees' mental health, well-being, and work-related outcomes.
Based on data from a long-term study and insurance records, the authors analyzed how creating a workplace environment that fosters care for employees can positively affect their mental health and overall well-being. The study demonstrates that organizations that emphasize psychological care and support can reap significant benefits, not only by improving employees' health and satisfaction but also by enhancing their work performance. As a result, such an approach can lead to reduced absenteeism, increased engagement, and an overall improvement in workplace atmosphere.
The authors emphasize that creating a positive work climate requires conscious and ongoing commitment from organizations. The study's findings indicate that these efforts can have long-lasting benefits for both employees and the organization as a whole, making them not only morally but also economically justified.
The inclusion of this publication on the "Top 10 Insights from the Science of a Meaningful Life in 2023" list by the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley underscores its global significance and impact on research in positive psychology and workplace health. Each year, the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley selects ten key scientific discoveries that contribute significantly to understanding the meaning of life and well-being.
