As part of a debate on migration to Europe, organised by Wirtualna Polska and the European Parliament, experts discussed the challenges and opportunities associated with the influx of migrants. Professor Izabela Grabowska from the Centre for Social Change and Mobility Studies at Kozminski University presented the perspective that legal migration is the key to exploiting the migration potential for economic development in the European Union. She pointed out that in the face of an ageing population and skills shortages, migrants can fill gaps in the labour market and contribute to sustaining a high level of GDP.
Prof Grabowska also stressed that the benefits of migration can only be realised if it is legal and well-managed. She pointed out that clear rules and effective integration strategies are needed to allow migrants to integrate smoothly into social and professional structures in Europe, while minimising the risk of social conflict. While Europe navigates the complexities of migration, it is important to develop policies that balance humanitarian concerns with economic needs. The success of such policies relies on the effective integration of migrants into the labour market, addressing both current economic needs and long-term demographic challenges.
