More than 1,400 students and members of the academic community attended a lecture by Prof. Marcin Piątkowski at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), devoted to Poland’s economic transformation and the key drivers behind its long-term growth success. According to official information published by the Polish government, the lecture took place at the invitation of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Hong Kong.
In his talk, Prof. Piątkowski discussed the process through which Poland transformed itself from poverty to prosperity and became one of Europe’s fastest-growing economies. He highlighted the importance of strong institutions, investment in people, openness to the world, and cooperation with international institutions as some of the most important factors behind Poland’s economic success. The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session, during which students asked about China’s economic development, the challenges facing young people entering the labour market, and the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future economy.
The event attracted exceptional interest and demonstrated that Poland’s development story resonates strongly with international academic audiences. The lecture was also recorded and made available on the university’s Blackboard platform, extending its reach beyond those present in the room.
CUHK is one of Asia’s leading universities. Founded in 1963, it is currently ranked 32nd in the QS World University Rankings 2026, its best result to date. The university is also notable for its outstanding academic community: four Nobel laureates have been associated with CUHK, and it is the only university in Hong Kong with Nobel Prize, Turing Award, Fields Medal, and Veblen Prize recipients serving as faculty in residence.
The visit also marks an important step in the development of relations between Kozminski University and CUHK, with both institutions currently discussing the framework for future cooperation. Prof. Piątkowski’s visit to Hong Kong was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Hong Kong, headed by Michał Kołodziejski.
