Prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Koszalin University of Technology

Prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko, founder and director of the TIGER Research Center for Transformation, Integration and Globalization at Kozminski University, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Koszalin University of Technology. The ceremony took place on 12 June 2026 during the University Day celebrations marking the 58th anniversary of Koszalin University of Technology.

Prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko was honoured with the highest academic distinction of Koszalin University of Technology in recognition of his outstanding scholarly achievements, contribution to the development of economics, and role in Poland’s economic transformation processes.

A professor of economic sciences, academic lecturer, expert and consultant to international organisations, he is one of the most important figures in Poland’s economic debate of recent decades. As Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance in 1994–1997, he participated in the process that led Poland to OECD membership. Holding the same position again in 2002–2003, he played an important role in Poland’s integration with the European Union.

During the ceremony, the candidate’s scholarly achievements were presented by Prof. Anna Szelągowska from the SGH Warsaw School of Economics and Prof. Marian Gorynia, Senior Rector of Poznań University of Economics and Business. Prof. Jacek Tomkiewicz, Dean of the College of Finance and Economics at Kozminski University, also addressed the audience.

Science, practice and new pragmatism

The reviewers emphasised Prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko’s exceptional ability to combine scientific and research activity with active engagement in economic practice. The laudation was delivered by Prof. Stanisław Flejterski, an economist from the Faculty of Economic Sciences at Koszalin University of Technology, who has collaborated with Prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko for many years.

In his ceremonial lecture, the newly awarded honorary doctor of Koszalin University of Technology reflected on the economic and political reality of the contemporary world, referring to his original concept of new pragmatism.

The awarding of the honorary doctorate to Prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko is an expression of recognition for the achievements of a scholar who combines economic research, experience in public administration and an international perspective.
