Prof. Christopher Hartwell receives the Best Paper Award 2024 from European Management Review

22.07.2025

Prof. Christopher Hartwell, PhD, has been awarded the prestigious Best Paper Award 2024 by European Management Review – the official journal of the European Academy of Management (EURAM).

The winning article, titled “Obstacles to Collective Action During a Crisis: A Meta-Organizational Perspective”, was co-authored with Prof. Thomas Lawton (University College Cork, Ireland) and Dr. Ishmael Tingbani (University of Southampton, UK).

The paper explores the structural and strategic barriers that hinder effective cooperation among organizations during times of crisis. By introducing a meta-organizational lens, the authors offer a novel framework for understanding how collective action is negotiated, constrained, or enabled within complex networks of institutions. The research provides valuable theoretical and empirical insights into crisis management and interorganizational dynamics in today’s globalized and uncertain environment.

The award was presented during the EURAM 2025 – Managing with Purpose conference, held from 22 to 25 June 2025 at the University of Florence, Italy – one of the leading annual events in the field of management research in Europe.

The EMR Best Paper Award recognizes outstanding scholarly contributions that advance theoretical understanding, demonstrate methodological rigor, and offer social or managerial relevance.

This distinction highlights once again the growing international recognition of research conducted at Kozminski University and its impact on shaping contemporary debates in management and organizational studies.
