The President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, officially presented professorial nominations to a group of academic teachers and researchers in the fields of science and the arts. Among the distinguished recipients is Prof. Aneta Hryckiewicz-Gontarczyk of Kozminski University, who received the title of Professor of Social Sciences in the discipline of Economics and Finance.
Prof. Hryckiewicz-Gontarczyk is affiliated with Kozminski University, where she serves as the Director of the Center for Financial Stability and Transformation and the Economic Institute for Empirical Analysis (EIEA). She is also the founder and academic director of the Big Data Science program, conducted in English.
She earned her PhD at Goethe University Frankfurt and completed her habilitation at the Warsaw School of Economics. Throughout her academic career, she has been affiliated with prestigious institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania – Wharton Business School, IESEG School of Management (Paris and Lille), Goethe University, and the University of Oxford, where she conducted research on banking crises. Since 2022, she has been affiliated with Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, where she continues her research and recently completed the prestigious Oxford Bank Governance Programme.
Her international research focuses on financial stability, banking activity, macroprudential policy, and the development of FinTechs and BigTechs. She leads multiple projects, including those funded by the Polish National Science Centre. She is the author of numerous publications in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance, Economic Modelling, Emerging Markets Review, and the Journal of Financial Stability. She has also published several books and book chapters with both Polish and international publishers. Among her most recognized titles in Poland are Anatomia kryzysów bankowych (The Anatomy of Banking Crises, Poltext) and Pośrednictwo finansowe bez tradycyjnych banków (Financial Intermediation Without Traditional Banks, Poltext).
Her academic achievements combine the highest standards of scholarly rigor with meaningful contributions to public debate and economic policymaking. For over a decade, she has combined academic pursuits with professional experience in the banking sector – having previously worked in investment banking in Warsaw, Budapest, and Frankfurt. From 2015 to 2024, she served on the Supervisory Board of Pekao Investment Banking S.A., where she was also a member of the Audit Committee. Since 2024, she has served on the Supervisory Board of ING Bank Śląski S.A., acting as a member of the Audit Committee and Chair of the Remuneration and Nomination Committee. She has also held numerous advisory roles, including for the European Commission.
