The Polish-language edition of Coming Full Circle: The Intellectual and Political Biography of Tadeusz Kowalik [Zataczając krąg. Biografia intelektualna i polityczna Tadeusza Kowalika] by Prof. Gavin Rae – Head of the Department of Social Sciences at Kozminski University – has just been released as an e-book, published by Wydawnictwo Heterodox.
The book offers an in-depth intellectual and political biography of Tadeusz Kowalik, widely regarded as one of the most important Polish critical economists of the 20th century. It shows how Kowalik combined rigorous academic work on economic ideas with a consistent commitment to building a more just society.
Three systems, one consistent commitment
Kowalik lived and worked under three different political-economic systems in Poland. The narrative places his intellectual legacy within the context of Poland’s modern history and key post-war turning points. It also highlights how – after 1989 -Kowalik emerged as a major critic of Poland’s economic transformation, leaving arguments that still resonate in debates on capitalism, social justice, and alternative development models.
An important part of the research process included interviews conducted with Kozminski University professors: Prof. Andrzej Koźmiński, Prof. Witold Morawski, and Prof. Grzegorz W. Kołodko. Their reflections and expertise are quoted in the book.
This e-book will be particularly valuable for readers who want to better understand Polish economic thought and the controversies around systemic transformation, follow contemporary political economy and its social consequences, and are looking for a well-documented, fact-based story about ideas that translate into real public decisions.
