KU scientists received grants as part of the OPUS, Preludium and MINIATURE science competitions. Their total value is over 1.5 million PLN.

20.12.2021

The first project, submitted as a part of the OPUS competition, is "The impact of financial support for SMEs on their financial results during the coronavirus pandemic in selected European countries", led by Prof. Aneta Hryckiewicz-Gontarczyk, Ph.D., and Olha Zadorozhna, Ph.D., from the Department of Economic Empirical Analysis.

The main aim of the study is to estimate the effects of subsidy programs for micro-enterprises and SMEs in Poland and France. The main research question is: "What are the effects of subsidy programs under the Polish Financial Shield and the French Solidarity Fund for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises? More specifically: „What is the impact of these programs on the financial liquidity and performance of micro-enterprises and SMEs ”? The budget for the research is 700,574 PLN.

Another OPUS grant has been given to the Department of Management in Digital and Networked Societies, thanks to Prof. Aleksandra Przegalińska-Skierkowska, Ph.D., and Leon Ciechanowski, and their research "Virtual assistants as a support for knowledge-based work – the example of marketers".

The project examines the concept and practical applications of the so-called virtual assistants based on Artificial Intelligence. The research question concerns how the respondents perceive Artificial Intelligence in their work and what features of AI would be necessary for it to create synergy effects with employees. It will be a whole complex of qualitative research and experiments (also with the use of sensors that allow to capture the emotional state of participants and research, whose main aim is to shed new light on the various dimensions of human-machine collaboration in knowledge-based work environments. The budget for the research project is 709,080 PLN.

The third project, implemented as part of the OPUS competition, "The impact of basic legal research on the education of lawyers on the example of basic research financed by the National Science Center in Poland" will be carried out by our university in cooperation with the University of Białystok. The following persons were involved in the preparation of the application on the part of KU: Prof. Małgorzata Skórzewska-Amberg, Ph.D., and Ben Sassi, Ph. D,. from the Department of Theory, Philosophy and History of Law and Ewa Kwiatkowska, Ph.D., from the Department of Quantitative Methods and Applications of Information Technology.

The scientific goal of the project is to expand and systematize the knowledge about the impact of basic legal research on education in legal studies in the 21st century on the example of Poland. The obtained results will allow to determine the nature and degree of impact of basic legal research on the education of lawyers in Poland as well as their causes, and effects against the background of selected European countries (Germany, France, Great Britain) by analyzing and comparing the obtained research results with socio-legal conditions and doctrine views (based on the literature), using a comparative approach. The budget is: 37,000 PLN.

Another grant will be awarded as part of the Preludium competition. "Transformation of employee innovation into organizational routine" is a project carried out by Agnieszka Padzik-Wołos from the Department of Management.

The goal of the research project is to enrich theoretical knowledge on the transformation of employee innovation into organizational routine. It is a new approach to combining the area of innovation and routine, as it is a configuration inverted in relation to the concept of creating innovation from routine presented by Feldman and Pentland (2003). The goal will be achieved through empirical research of a qualitative nature. The expected effect is a contribution to science by understanding the phenomenon in the form of its in-depth descriptions or - perhaps - a model in terms of two research questions: "How is the process of transforming employee innovation into organizational routines?" and "What factors are conducive to and which are hindering this transformation?" The project's budget is 86,193 PLN.

KU scientists also received funding in the MINIATURE 5 competition, to which applications may be submitted for the implementation of a single scientific activity.

The first project is "Measurement of the impact of issues publicized by general information editorial offices on the similarity and differentiation of the structures of media agencies of Polish TV broadcasters", led by Jacek Nożewski, Ph.D., from the Department of Management.

The immediate goal of the project is to identify and estimate the impact of environmental factors of media organizations on their proximity or distance in terms of the content presented. As part of the pilot studies, the largest Polish TV channels were selected for analysis: TVN24, TVP Info and Polsat News. The conducted pilot studies will be a starting point for more in-depth analyzes related to the media agencies of Polish news agencies. In practice, the project is to blur the belief in the purely political aspect of the functioning of the media and emphasize the more strategic and managerial aspects of the activities of individual editorial offices. The budget for the examination is 26,400 PLN.

The second study to be funded under the MINIATURE competition is "Development of the methodology for calibrating models of heterogeneous agents in finance" by Piotr Zegadło, Ph.D., from the Department of Economic Empirical Analysis.

The project involves the development of a method of uniform assessment of various methods of calibrating heterogeneous agent models, which will facilitate their application to the analysis of empirical data. The obtained solution will be implemented in the form of a publicly available library in the R language. Its budget is 35,182 PLN.

Congratulations on the successes of our scientists and we keep our fingers crossed for the implementation of all research!
