27.11.2025

Kozminski University has been honoured with the LUMEN – Digital Transformation Leaders PCG Academia award in the category “Management of Distance Learning” for the implementation and adaptation of the Blackboard Learn platform. On behalf of the Rector, the award was accepted by Professor Jolanta Tkaczyk, who emphasised that this recognition is the result of many months of work, consistency and the commitment of a broad team responsible for the digital transformation of teaching and learning at Kozminski University.

Blackboard as the foundation of modern education The implementation of the Blackboard platform is one of the key steps in the development of Kozminski University’s teaching ecosystem. The platform has become a central tool for managing distance and hybrid learning – from sharing materials and communicating with students to running classes in a blended learning format and designing new forms of group work.

“This is a project that required collaboration, courage and openness to change – and this is exactly the kind of team I had beside me. Only some of the people involved are visible in the photo, which is why I would like to thank every person who contributed to this process. This award is for you and thanks to you. Together we show that modern education is not only about tools, but above all about the people who know how to use them wisely,” stresses Professor Jolanta Tkaczyk.

From Excel to excellence – digital projects transforming universities During the conference accompanying the LUMEN awards gala, Professor Jolanta Tkaczyk took part in the panel “From Excel to excellence: an overview of digital projects transforming the reality of Polish higher education institutions”. In her contribution she highlighted how the implementation of Blackboard has influenced communication with students and the organisation of the teaching process by:

  • enabling consistent and transparent delivery of courses in the blended learning model,
  • facilitating the development of a unified standard for courses,
  • opening the way to designing new forms of classes and student activities based on data and continuous feedback.

Referring to the so-called Red Queen effect, Professor Tkaczyk pointed out that in a world of dynamic digital transformation, “running in place” becomes a necessity – continuous effort is enough only to avoid falling behind. In order to truly advance and build an advantage, universities need to “run twice as fast” – constantly improving quality, investing in staff competences and making smart use of technology in the teaching process.

The LUMEN – Digital Transformation Leaders award confirms that the direction chosen by Kozminski University in the development of its teaching model – based on modern tools and teamwork – is bringing a real change in the quality of education and the student experience. It also provides a strong starting point for the next stages of the university’s digital transformation.
