Kozminski University has once again demonstrated that academic excellence can go hand in hand with top-level athletic performance. During the semi-final round B of the Polish Academic Championships in tennis, held from 13 to 16 May 2025 in Lublin, the university’s teams delivered outstanding results. The men’s team secured first place, while the women’s team finished second – both qualifying for the national finals taking place this June in Katowice.

This year’s semi-final was particularly special, marking the return of the Championships to Lublin after a seven-year break. The event was hosted by the Academic Sports Association (AZS) club of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. The tournament was officially opened by the university’s Rector, Rev. Prof. Dr. Hab. Mirosław Kalinowski. Competing teams represented academic institutions from central and eastern Poland, with a place in the national finals at stake – the most prestigious event in the Polish university sports calendar.

Despite challenging weather conditions – low temperatures and persistent rain – the matches proceeded smoothly under covered courts. Played on artificial turf, the competition reached a very high level, culminating in a complete podium sweep by Warsaw-based universities in both the women’s and men’s categories.

The women’s team from Kozminski University consisted of Alexandra Persson, Anna Hertel, Zuzanna Jeschke, and Natalia Kowalczyk. The men’s team featured Karol Szczap, Filip Olech, Alan Bojarski, and Sandro Szic.

Thanks to excellent form, strategic preparation, and strong team cohesion, both Kozminski University teams secured top positions. The women’s team finished second, just behind Łazarski University, while the men’s team proved unbeatable, defeating strong opponents such as the University of Warsaw and the Warsaw School of Economics to take first place.

These results earned both Kozminski University teams a place in the final round of the Polish Academic Championships, scheduled for 11–15 June 2025 in Katowice. The finals will bring together the top academic teams from across Poland for a decisive battle for the national championship title.

The Polish Academic Championships are organized by the Academic Sports Association (AZS) with support from the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. Kozminski University has long supported the development of academic sports, treating it as an integral part of shaping future-ready competencies such as discipline, collaboration, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence.
