42.2 kilometres around Lake Wigry, forest trails, wooden footbridges, challenging terrain and weather conditions that raised the bar even higher. The 14th edition of Maraton Wigry is now behind us, with Kozminski University serving as one of the event partners. Among the runners was a representative of our community, Aleksandra Pucek-Mioduszewska, who finished third.
Maraton Wigry took place on 22 August in Wigry National Park. The route circled Lake Wigry, leading from the Monastery in Wigry to Stary Folwark. Over the 42.2-kilometre distance, runners faced nearly 500 metres of elevation gain.
This is a race where the finishing time is only part of the experience. Narrow, winding trails running close to the lakeshore, wooden footbridges across wetlands, gravel roads and the landscape of the Suwałki region give Maraton Wigry a character quite different from a traditional road race. This year, rain and strong winds added an extra challenge.
The Kozminski University community had a particular reason to celebrate. Aleksandra Pucek-Mioduszewska, affiliated with the College of Law and representing Kozminski Running Club, completed the marathon in third place.
The partnership with Maraton Wigry is part of Kozminski University’s broader cooperation with the organiser of Łemkowyna Trail, launched this spring. The cooperation covers events centred around sport and outdoor activity, including Łemkowyna Trail and Warsaw Gravel Series. An important part of the partnership is engaging the University community in sporting events, as well as sharing knowledge and experience – the organiser’s team also provides expert input for the “Sports Management” postgraduate programme offered at Kozminski University.
