Kozminski University has once again renewed its Business School Impact System (BSIS) label – an international framework for assessing the impact of business schools, developed by EFMD Global and FNEGE. The label has been renewed for the maximum period of three years. BSIS assesses how a university’s education, research and external engagement translate into the development of people, organisations, the economy, and society.
The Business School Impact System comprises more than 120 indicators across seven dimensions of impact: financial, educational, business development, intellectual, regional ecosystem, societal and image impact. In this year’s reassessment of Kozminski University, two areas were examined: educational and intellectual impact. More information about BSIS is available on the EFMD Global website.
Kozminski University first obtained the BSIS label in 2020. Three years later, it was renewed, and this year’s decision extends the label for another full term. The continuity of the process demonstrates that analysing and deliberately strengthening impact have become an integral part of the University’s management approach rather than a one-off exercise.
Impact beyond the campus
A university’s value can be described through the quality of its programmes, its research achievements, or its international standing. BSIS makes it possible to go a step further and examine the outcomes of these activities – the careers of graduates, the development of managers’ and professionals’ competencies, the transfer of knowledge between academia and practice, and the University’s role in economic and social life.
Warsaw and the Mazovia region constitute the primary area of Kozminski University’s impact. At the same time, its academic programmes, research activity, management education, cooperation with organisations and the participation of its experts in public debate generate impact at the national level and, increasingly, internationally.
A university that attracts and develops talent
One of the most important dimensions of Kozminski University’s impact is the trajectory of its students and graduates. The University attracts students from Warsaw and Mazovia, other parts of Poland and abroad, and supports their development from the beginning of their studies through successive stages of their careers. Many graduates apply the competencies they have acquired in the regional labour market, contribute to organisations operating across Poland or pursue international career opportunities. This also applies to international graduates who choose to build their future in Poland after completing their studies.
The University’s long-term impact is also reflected in its active alumni community. Its members are present across business, public administration, academic institutions and civil society organisations. They lead companies, participate in public decision-making, develop innovative ventures, and share their knowledge with successive generations of students.
Educational impact does not end with graduation. MBA programmes, postgraduate studies, part-time education, and executive education enable managers and professionals to develop their competencies at different stages of their careers. The University’s educational offer is developed in dialogue with representatives of business and the public sector, allowing it to respond to challenges related, among others, to leadership, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and changes in the labour market.
Research for practice
The University’s intellectual impact does not end with the publication of research findings. Knowledge matters when it helps us better understand reality, supports decision-making, strengthens organisations, and enriches public debate.
Research conducted at Kozminski University addresses challenges that are relevant to the economy and society. It covers, among other areas, digital transformation and artificial intelligence, sustainability and ESG, banking and finance, changes in the labour market, and the economic consequences of geopolitical instability. Research findings are transferred into practice through cooperation with companies, public administration, civil society organisations, and European institutions.
Research also has a direct impact on education. It shapes new programmes and specialisations, informs course content, and enables students to work with current research questions and real organisational challenges. In this way, research and teaching form one coherent circulation of knowledge.
Impact is an integral part of a university’s mission. It is a test of whether education and research truly matter. BSIS gives us a structured, evidence-based approach that allows us to better understand this impact, manage it deliberately and strengthen the value we create for students, organisations and, more broadly, society, says Professor Grzegorz Mazurek, Rector of Kozminski University.
The BSIS label as a commitment
The renewal of the BSIS label does not mark the end of the process. It provides a reference point for the University’s further development: to better identify the outcomes of its activities, strengthen cooperation with its environment, and consistently translate academic knowledge into practice.
The motto Education that matters now finds its natural extension in Research that matters. Education matters when it opens opportunities and prepares people to act responsibly. Research matters when it helps organizations and society address real-world challenges. The BSIS label confirms that both areas remain integral parts of Kozminski University’s mission.
