Kozminski University was the Academic Partner of this year’s Mazovia Open ATP Challenger, held in Kozerki from 2 to 9 August. The tournament combined international tennis competition with opportunities for meetings and discussions on business, management, development, and cooperation.
Mazovia Open is an international tennis tournament attracting players, fans, and representatives of the business community. Kozminski University’s partnership reflects the idea of connecting sport with education and business practice, while creating opportunities for the exchange of knowledge and experience across different professional environments.
Sport and business have more in common than may seem at first glance. Ambition, consistency, the ability to perform under pressure, accountability for decisions, teamwork and continuous development are equally important on the court and in managing an organisation. High-level sport is also a complex business endeavour, requiring effective management, brand building, strong partnerships and the ability to create value for multiple stakeholder groups.
One of the new features of this year’s tournament was the Sport & Business zone – a space bringing together representatives of sport, business, and organisations. Discussions focused on management, leadership, relationship-building and opportunities for cooperation between the sports and business communities. It was also an opportunity to look at sport not only through the lens of competition and performance, but also as a sector that requires professional management capabilities and a strategic approach to development.
Kozminski University’s presence at Mazovia Open highlights the importance of cooperation between universities and their business and social environment. It is in such settings that academic knowledge can meet the experience of practitioners, while education can respond more directly to the real challenges faced by organisations and entire sectors.
This year’s Mazovia Open also delivered strong sporting emotions. In the final, Joel Schwärzler defeated Andrea Guerrieri to claim the Mazovia Open 2026 title.
