Maria Lipińska, a first-year doctoral student at the Doctoral School of Kozminski University, takes part in the Summer Institute in Computational Social Science at Stanford University (SICSS-Stanford 2026). The program takes place on 10–21 August 2026 and was organized by two outstanding Stanford research units – Tech Impact and Policy Center and Social Media Lab.
The Summer Institute in Computational Social Science is a prestigious international initiative bringing together doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and scholars interested in computational social science. The program combines perspectives from the social sciences and data science, creating a space for interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and high-level academic collaboration.
This year’s edition focuses on the study of digital environments, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence systems – treated both as a subject of research and as a research tool. The program includes lectures, workshops, guest talks, and research projects carried out by participants. Speakers include researchers representing academia, industry, and public institutions, as well as experts in law and public policy. The thematic scope covers, among other topics, data collection, research design, social network analysis, and issues related to privacy and research ethics.
Participation in SICSS-Stanford is a distinction – only 25 participants from among applicants from around the world were invited to the program. Maria Lipińska was one of two doctoral students representing European universities. The participation of a Kozminski University doctoral student in this initiative confirms the high quality of education at the ALK Doctoral School and the growing presence of our researchers in the international academic community. The trip was financed by NAWA funds, which support research mobility for scholars.
