Research topic:

The Centre's activities are aimed at planning and undertaking research into the workings of the media, observing the process of technological innovation, which is becoming an inevitable part of many people's daily lives and a factor of social change, but also brings with it many political and economic risks, as well as carrying out research related to issues of regulation, data trust and network security, and finally promoting research into the social and political processes through which ideas, information and beliefs are created, disseminated and received in different social, political and organisational contexts.

Identification of objectives to be pursued by the research team:

Drawing on the resources of a range of disciplines, in particular sociology and media and communication science, the Centre will seek to develop a critical approach to understanding and addressing the relationship between media, communication and society. Address the theoretical problems of the study of media and new information and communication technologies. Observe the social, cultural, political and economic consequences of digitisation (in terms of Poland's development) in the context of contemporary trends in digital media development, regulation at national and European level.

Identify recommendations for cultural and educational policy of the state and implications for business.

In particular, the following research strands are to be addressed:

  • the rate of market penetration of media and new technologies
  • social, technical and geographical coverage
  • social and economic conditions of access
  • programme offerings, needs and content consumption patterns
  • impact on cultural diversity and media pluralism
  • characteristics of market players: equipment manufacturers, platform operators, network administrators and content providers, consumers - users
  • relations between market players
  • educational programmes (media literacy) in the field of new technologies

In particular, the Centre's tasks will include:

1) coordinating research projects related to the research topic; 2) promoting the results of ongoing research;  3) organising international conferences, workshops, seminars, summer schools and other events of a scientific nature;  4) to undertake cooperation with other research centres, domestic and foreign;  5) applying for research grants, including those from foreign institutions.  6) undertaking cooperation with business, especially with technology companies conducting work in the field of the research topic.

The Centre's activities may be financed in particular by:

1) grants and subsidies awarded for scientific research or research and development; 2) funds obtained through cooperation with external entities;  3) voluntary donations from third parties to the Centre;  4) other sources related to the Centre's activities. 

The Centre's activities are based on the principle of self-financing. The Centre operates on the basis of a budget in accordance with the ALK's financial management principles.

Intellectual and industrial property created as a result of the Centre's activities will be managed in accordance with the rules of ALK applicable to intellectual property and legal protection of intellectual property.
