Professor Łukasz Kozłowski teaches in the Department of Banking, Insurance and Risk. He authored more than thirty publications, also in renowned JCR-listed international journals. His scientific interests focus on the functioning of banks and small and medium enterprises on local markets, relationships between business models of banks and systemic risk, but also on the effects of withdrawals of commercial banks’ foreign owners from specific domestic markets. Since 2013, he has been the principal investigator or main researcher of scientific grants financed by Poland’s National Science Centre:

1. “Czynniki kulturowe i zaufanie społeczne: Wpływ na sytuację banków i akcję kredytową” (Cultural Factors and Social Trust: The Impact on Banks and Crediting Actions); principal investigator;
2. “Powiązania polityczne. Wartość dla przedsiębiorstw i znaczenie ogólnogospodarcze. Perspektywa międzynarodowa” (Political Connections, Their Value to Enterprises, and General Economic Meaning: An International Perspective);
3. “Relacja przedsiębiorstwa z bankiem i jej ekonomiczne konsekwencje” (The Relationship of Enterprise and Bank and Its Economic Consequences); principal investigator;
4. “Decyzje lokalizacyjne dotyczące placówek bankowych – konsekwencje dla banków i lokalnej aktywności gospodarczej” (Location Decisions Concerning Bank Branches: Consequences for Banks and Local Economic Activity);
5. “Dyscyplina deponencka wobec banków spółdzielczych a rola pogłosek” (Depositor Discipline Toward Cooperative Banks and the Role of Gossip); principal investigator;
6. “Wpływ lokalnych struktur rynku bankowego na finansowanie małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw” (The Influence of Local Structures of Bank Market on Financing Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises);
7. “Dyscyplina deponencka a sytuacja finansowa państw” (Depositor Discipline and the Financial Situation of States);
8. “Zachowania deponentów w krajach Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej w okresie kryzysu” (Depositors’ Behavior in Central and Eastern European Countries During the Crisis).

Awards:

1. Kozminski University Rector’s Award for scientific publications;
2. Best Article Award for the article “Issuing Bonds, Shares or Staying Private? Determinants of Going Public in an Emerging Economy,” World Business, Finance and Management Conference in Auckland, New Zealand (2014). Professor Kozłowski authored or co-authored several scientific articles presented at conferences.

Most Significant Academic Achievements:

1. Creation of a new subject for master’s studies in English: Big Data Analysis.
2. Supervision or auxiliary supervision of several doctoral dissertations.
3. Conducting a series of research masterclasses for doctoral students during which they learn about the results and methodology of newest empirical studies in the field of finance and banking; including the research of Professor Kozłowski and other co-authors.
