PhD Karol Chlasta

Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Management in Networked and Digital Societies at the Kozminski University in Warsaw. He was awarded his doctoral degree in engineering and technical sciences in the field of technical informatics and telecommunications by the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw, Poland. He defended with distinction his doctoral dissertation titled "Neural Simulation Pipeline for Liquid State Machines" in 2023 (summa cum laude).

Beyond academia, Karol is a certified specialist (Dataiku, Salesforce, SAP, Mimecast, MicroStrategy, IBM, Dell/EMC), consultant, trainer (HCAI - Huawei Certified Academy Instructor), and IT manager. He holds a master's degree in Economic Computer Science from the University of Economics in Krakow (2008) and completed postgraduate studies in Business Analytics at the Institute of Informatics, Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology of the Warsaw University of Technology (2015). In 2007 completed a pedagogical course at University College Dublin (Ireland). He has participated in numerous international exchange programs and internships, including those to the United Kingdom, France, and Finland. In 2006, he was awarded the Scholarship of the Minister of National Education and Sport which is given to the top students in Poland.

With over fifteen years of professional experience in various IT and finance roles (including several leadership positions) in organizations such as HP, IBM, MicroStrategy, Royal Bank of Scotland, Brown Brothers Harriman, and Aviva, he was one of the first graduates of the Aviva’s global leadership development program called "Leading for Growth in the UK & Ireland." In 2017; he also received the "Outstanding Leader" award from Aviva's global CIO for the best leader in IT (globally, for all Aviva markets and joint-venture companies). Since 2022, he has been serving as the Head of Technicus Poland, responsible for establishing, and the operational management of the Polish branch of the company, as well as founding and developing Technicus’ global internal IT and cybersecurity function and was rewarded with Technicus’ first IASME certification 2024. In Warsaw, he has built and managed a cohesive team of 15 covering diverse functions such as ETL developers, Data Analysts, Technical support as well as the company’s global general support functions HR and Finance.

His teaching experience includes courses at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw, and the Olsztyn University of Computer Science and Management in Olsztyn. Here he was responsible for modules such as Machine Learning, Advanced Multimedia Techniques, Business Intelligence Analytical Systems, Databases, and Multimedia Technologies on the Internet. Currently, he teaches subjects related to programming and artificial intelligence at Kozminski University in Warsaw, Poland.

In the early 1990s, he created of one of the first computer networks providing internet access in Tarnów, Poland. He is an enthusiast of Linux, Raspberry Pi and a passionate marathon runner.

His scientific interests cover diverse topics, ranging from artificial intelligence (mainly artificial neural networks and machine learning), human-computer interaction, processing of large datasets, and information management. He is the author or co-author of several scientific publications primarily focusing on social informatics and neuroinformatics.
