The major in Big Data Analysis, on our Master in Finance and Accounting studies, is a two-year program conducted in English, which is held in collaboration with industry experts from global companies. The studies simultaneously prepare students to work in big data in the finance field. Aside from extensive finance knowledge, practical technical skills will be taught, such as identifying, collecting, analysing, interpreting, and transforming data, in order to face big data challenges in financial world. Furthermore, new trends in both areas will be presented, from venture capital to cloud computing.

Taking part in this unique Big Data program enables students to link theory with practice - simultaneously gaining professional experience. From the first semester on, each student gets the chance to work with an assigned university mentor as well as company mentor to tackle the finance big data world. The partnership with global Big Data companies is a key asset of the program. Apart from excellent networking opportunities, classes are to some extend conducted by practitioners. Real-life business case studies are solved by the students in collaboration with the mentors. The majority of classes takes place in computer labs with access to platforms such as Bloomberg and Reuters. We encourage students to follow their passion and attend programming languages within their area of interest. To round up the experience, students take part in a trainee program during the last semester – with a strategic partner of their choice. There is no better way to start a career!

As a part of my Master degree, I was lucky enough to be selected for project with Goldman Sachs. Currently, I am working with the Risk Department that mainly focuses on preventing the company from losing money, rather than making money for it.
During this project, I have learned much not only about financial aspects, but also about programming and the real struggles of Big Data Analysts. I have discovered that collection and data preparation can be very challenging, even more challenging than using this data for a problem solution. It was a practical example of a project that I might get in my future career in Big Data field. All in all, I am very grateful that Kozminski University offers the students such great opportunities to learn, to develop new skills, to discover talents that we did not know existed within ourselves. I am looking forward for more challenges and opportunities during my studies and career!

At the university, I have the great opportunity not only to obtain practical knowledge from lecturers but also to collaborate on a weekly basis with Goldman Sachs on building a financial predictive model. BIG DATA REVOLUTIONIZED THE WAY BUSINESSES FUNCTION.
The aim of the Big Data Analysis course is to teach students skills that constitute a practical value at work and, simultaneously, a great asset in students’ CVs. Students are taught how large data sets are handled in accounting, finance and banking. Concepts of relational databases are presented to learn how to work with ‘real’ data whilst practicing SQL programming by solving exercises at various levels of difficulty during each class. I strongly advise students to participate in all classes as we are consistently diving into more advanced concepts. As utilization of analytical software is a must – used by specialized data-driven professionals in finance, we give students the opportunity to become experts, in order to successfully master the future work challenges of a data-driven world.

Academic databases such as ScienceDirect, ProQuest, JSTOR etc. allow to track the most recent research findings in the domains of economics and finance. Thanks to a special agreement, KU students have access to the published materials of "Financial Times" (including articles, webcasts, business data and interactive graphics), which provides an unparalleled international exposure and essential multidisciplinary knowledge of global politics and finance.
Being a highly positioned academic institution, Kozminski University puts a strong emphasis on rigorous research aimed at gaining new insights into business and economics through the application of refined methodology. Foreigners who need a visa to study in Poland are additionally required to make payment of tuition for one full year of studies before we can issue documents necessary in the visa application process i.e. invitation to come to Poland and the admission decision. Admission commission issues a conditional acceptance letter including individual account number to which the payment should be transferred in Polish Złoty (PLN) calculated according to the exchange rates of the National Bank of Poland (www.nbp.pl).
